Rail operator ‘One’ has launched a security guard trial scheme to provide both a deterrent and reassuring presence regarding anti-social behaviour on its services.
The guards will be present on ‘one’s’ trains and stations in London and Hertfordshire over the next three months.
The move follows a successful working group, operating in conjunction with the British Transport Police, which investigated how to tackle a range of anti-social behaviour problems: such as vandalism, graffiti and trespass.
Thanks to work already carried out by the group, incidents of anti-social behaviour have fallen by 50 per cent.
It is hoped that the security guard pilot scheme will continue this work and provide a safer environment for both passengers and staff.
Mark Evans, route director of ‘one’ West Anglia, said: "A dedicated team of security guards focusing solely on the West Anglia route will boost security and help to bring the number of incidents on the route down even further, ensuring that passengers feel safe when using our services and acting as a deterrent to anti-social behaviour."
Should the scheme continue to prove to be a success, Mr Evans stated that ‘one’ would be willing to extend the scheme.
